When is the next CQC Competition?
CQC7 just ended on May 16-17, CQC8 has yet to be announced but will be happening sometime in early 2010.
What is the competition all about?
Airsoft Pacific’s Close Quarters Combat Competition is an annual Airsoft event for teams of 6-12 tactical operators to test tactics they’ve learned in ultra-realistic CQC/CQB, MOUT and TERT style scenarios. Unlike some other Airsoft competitions, CQC is not a force on force competition. Our perpetrators, bystanders, victims and hostages are all played by game staff and professional actors.
Why actors?
Actors give a completely unbiased response to all teams who enter the competition. Our professional OPFOR of actors and volunteers are trained to react just like somebody would in a real-world crisis. They aren’t out there to count kills or have a John Woo style shoot-out. We know that it’s important in tactical simulation to provide an environment that is as realistic as possible, which is why having actors in our scenarios is the best option.
How is the competition scored?
We try not to base any of our scoring on any sort of opinion or set tactic. Since there are so many types of tactical teams and so many schools of thought when it comes to “the right way” to do tactical entry, we leave our scoring to the objectives. One or two silent observers will follow each stack during their run of the scenario to take notes and apply penalties where objectives aren’t met.
How long has the competition been around?
One might assume 7 years, since we’re on CQC7, but the competition used to happen 2 times per year. The first ever CQC competition was on December 12th of 2004. A hand-full of teams competed in a 6,000 square foot warehouse building, also known as the Oregon Airsoft Association.
What are the hit rules?
All of the hit rules and game rules are outlined in the CQC7 Handbook. We publish a handbook with each event. Generally the same rule set is carried forward from each event, with a few minor adjustments.
Are there any medic or respawn rules?
No. Once you are dead, you remain dead for the rest of the round until the iteration is over. Rules concerning lethal vs. non-lethal hits and moving injured or dead teammates can be found in the handbook.
How much actual game time do I get for my money?
With CQC7’s 3 scenario format, you’ll be active for 3 hours. Each scenario from start to finish takes about an hour, including briefing, the scenario iteration, and debrief. We focus on the quality of the experience and the realism of the scenario, our goal is to make this time the most immersive Airsoft experience you’ve ever had.
What do we get for winning?
Lots of respect, and a big fat trophy! We award trophies to the teams who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Each person who attends the competition will also receive a ticket for a prize raffle after the event. We’ll have several AEGs, tactical gear and other great prizes from our sponsors to give away.
